Nostalgic technology

Yesterday I bought a roll of 35mm film. I haven’t bought 35mm film for at least three years.

After reading Damian’s comments on film photography I decided to dust off my trusty old 1980 Mamiya SLR, which I used to take hillwalking and climbing to get shots like these.

So next weekend I’m off up Ben Nevis with a 25 year old SLR and a Silva Compass from the same period. My friend will be lugging up his GPS and Digital SLR.

Perhaps I should take my old tape walkman up with the best of Aha, wear a Frankie Says T-shirt and imagine we are under a Tory government for the full experience.

I’m lying to myself, I’ll be snapping shots left, right and centre with my digital camera and the compass won’t be used – I’ll just go where my friend points – unless of course his batteries fail.
