Demon haunted world

From Hakmao:

Not only in peasant homes, but also in city skyscrapers, there lives alongside the twentieth century the thirteenth. A hundred million people use electricity and still believe in the magic powers of signs and exorcisms…Movie stars go to mediums. Aviators who pilot miraculous mechanisms created by man’s genius wear amulets on their sweaters. What inexhaustable reserves they possess of darkness, ignorance and savagery!

Well, Mr. Black Triangle, as Hakmao notes, those are the words of Lev Bronstein, aka Leon Trotsky, one of the most superstitious men who ever lived. That guy believed that there was a proletariat who were steadily increasing in size and getting poorer and poorer.

If that ain’t crazy enough, he believed in the dialectic, a notion that everything in the universe was going through a thesis, antithesis, synthesis progression that would someday halt forever leaving human beings out of the realm of necessity and in the realm of freedom.

Hehehe, it just goes to show that those supremely confident that they are free of superstition, that they have evolved beyond their fellows, may immersed in savage darkness. Trotsky’s was especially bloody.
