RPSGB Special General Meeting 1st June 2003

Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre
The Venue for the SGM
Members of the Society begin to arrive
Members of the Society begin to arrive. All had given up their day to be at the debate and participate in this historic day, some travelling great distances to attend. This was to be the biggest meeting of the Society for 14 or 15 years and grass roots pharmacists were eloquent in their defence of their Society's membership role.
Council Member Sultan Daljani presses the flesh (Sally Haynes and Anne Mishon)
Council member Sultan Dajani presses the flesh. Mr Dajani was one of the many who spoke in support of the membership role of the Society. Let's hope that with the other Council members who oppose the current ill-thought out proposals on Council, he will not be victimised at Lambeth for his stance.
Top Table
The top table steel themselves for SGM, taken immediately before they lost control of the meeting by trying to block alternative legal advice, while having their own able to speak. The top table displayed the same undemocractic attitudes as were seen at the AGM a few weeks previously.
Noel Wicks opens proceedings
Noel Wicks, proposer of the SGM starts the rather large ball rolling.
Hassan Argomandkhah
Hassan Argomandkhah (ex-Council member) drops his bombshell, explaining how the Council had not been given full discussions about the modernisation proposals. He was the first of many ex, current, and new Council members to speak out against the current 'modernisation' proposals.
Maurice Hickey states the case.
Maurice Hickey makes his point.
The President, and Secretary and Registrar look on in despair.
The argument is lost.
The vote
View of part of the hall as the SGM voted overwhelmingly for the proposal to have separate regulatory and representative functions within the Society, similar to the YPG plan. Can this be ignored?
